STRGHTFWRD - Leave Like This

This song comes with the tense build-ups and strong female vocal samples of any respectable EDM club track, with some harsh tech-house moments and 2step-garage syncopation to keep from being too “straightforward.” A great way to pick up the local EDM torch in 2020.

Roll$ - Fresh Air

The new solo single by TAO’s Roll$ is a somber soulful ballad about needing a breather in the middle of his rough year. It was released on his birthday as a gift to his listeners. The sleepy boombaps by Zeeky Beats is nice, but the a cappella finish is when the gloom fully hits us.

Hex Syndrome - Tenebrarum Occursus

A thunderous witch house single with a nice downtempo trap groove and gracefully dark orchestral opening. It works well as anticipation for the upcoming EP.

Edwin Voyager - Riding Bikes (place 2 B)

Here’s one of the most interesting projects to come out of the RGV ever. Voyager’s greatest strength is his psychedelic sense of journey. In his new single, he gets there with surreal indie guitar chords, trip-hop beats, and King Krule-ish vocals. Check out last year’s EP while you’re at it.

VioletCascade - Your brown eyes are beautiful

Here’s a new album that’s hard to pin down — with raw forms of post-punk, synthwave, and jazz fusion — but it’s all held together with vocals full of weepy operatics and vivid soundscapes of nocturnal loneliness.

Upon Your Dead Body - I Have to Let This Go

An intense song of cold sweats and emo angst. We covered this song on it’s own earlier this week. Check it out here.
