First Impression: Geminii - Falling For You
After more than a decade of experience as local musicians through several solo and collab projects, Diana Tovar and Rudy Cerda currently record as Geminii. Last year’s debut single “Avísame” surpassed all expectations with their danceable latin-pop and darkly dense electronica, but also created a year’s worth of anticipation for what’s next. Where their debut had Tovar singing in Spanish, Cerda takes over this time around with English lyrics.
In “Falling for You” we hear an ethereal testament of infatuation in an urban nighttime setting. The sound pleasantly wallows in 80’s synth-pop, and the light mood shift during the chorus is evocative of Imogen Heap and Chvrches. Attached to this new single is a demo called “Time". It complements the brief runtime of “Falling for You” and alternates Geminii’s heavier side with their signature watery textures. Together, the songs form an impressive panorama of Geminii’s niche: highly processed music with highly inspired singing. Whenever their first full release arrives, it’ll be worth the wait.
