Part 2 of this roundup of select 2023 RGV singles includes a kawaii metal surprise, soulful drama, and a moving experimental collaboration.

Royal Angst - Agoraphobia

Agoraphobia, disorienting paranoia, dehydrated panic. It all ignites in this dense and concise grunge explosion.

TRPSVN, X-Pert, J-SEA - Undefeated, Vol. 2

A shorter version of a posse cut released in February, making it easier to compare and enjoy these three distinct flows swimming in a blurry trap atmosphere.

Jay Sol - Sober

One of Jay Sol’s best cuts of soulful drama. As dark as it is vivid.

Italia - KAWAII METAL

Italia takes her Idol aesthetic to the extreme. The industrial trap of “KAWAII METAL” and the pop-punk powermetal of “I’M A METAL GIRL” are equal parts entertaining and intense.

Principium - THE SUBTLE TYPE

The affable Principium leaves behind their usual chorused haze for a moment, and unleashes their poppiest, hardest-hitting song yet.

Pillowsnake, FrankKing - no one really comes here

Two outsider artists put their recording quality and their emotions through the wringer. It’s jarring, profound, and oddly catchy. It’s the essense of Pillowsnake and FrankKing.

Chrome Dracula - Demo ‘23

The successor to the I Killed Techno! project. Six minutes of post-punk and death rock, with his signature deadpan angst getting an 8-bit treatment.

The Culture - WAVES

The Culture kicked off 2023 with a New Year’s midnight release of vibey indie rock and indulgent emo.
